Water, gas, electric and fibre runs at correct depths with ducts, draw cords, warning tape and neat reinstatement to pavements, drives and gardens.
Neat, compliant service trenches prevent future faults and make final surfaces look seamless. We plan routes for water, gas, electric and fibre, agree depths and separation distances, and coordinate entries so they land exactly where internal kit needs them. Trenches are excavated safely, ducts are colour-coded and sized correctly, and every run includes draw cords for easy pulling. We reinstate paving, tarmac or lawns to match existing finishes with tidy edges and firm bedding. Throughout, we keep a clean site, protect existing services and record what we install for a smooth handover.
Good trenching starts on paper. We confirm service entry points with your plumber, electrician and broadband provider, then map routes that avoid trees, foundations and clashes with drainage. Depths and offsets follow current guidance so utilities remain accessible and safe. We sequence works to minimise disruption—trenching, duct placement, inspections and reinstatement happen in a controlled flow. Clear wayfinding on site (spray marks, pins, notes) keeps everyone aligned and reduces rework.
Each service has a typical depth and preferred position in the corridor. We set consistent offsets, keep sensible separation between ducts, and cross at right angles to reduce interference. Where space is tight, we’ll propose vertical stacking or protective slabs to maintain cover without over-digging. Depths are checked with a laser; any deviation is corrected before backfill so future connections and maintenance are straightforward and safe.
Crossings are planned to avoid sharp bends and to keep falls on drainage. We provide sleeves or ducts through walls with neat internal entry plates and sealed penetrations. Internal entry heights are coordinated with cupboards, plant positions and meter locations so tails reach without strain. External boxes and pillars are set plumb on solid bases, at heights that suit paving and landscaping, ready for the utility provider to connect.
Trenches are dug with the right plant for the ground and access, keeping sides tidy and bottoms level. Where depth or soil condition demands, we install shoring or trench boxes to protect workers and inspectors. Existing services are located by plans and careful hand-digging before machine work proceeds. We maintain safe access routes, fence work areas and leave crossings for pedestrians or vehicles where required.
Ladders, fencing and signage keep the site safe; pump-outs or cut-offs control water so the formation remains firm. Spoil is kept back from edges to avoid surcharge and is stockpiled for reuse or removed with duty-of-care paperwork. We keep public paths clean, protect driveways and avoid muddy haul routes. These basics keep neighbours happy and the job moving.
Ducts protect cables/pipes and future-proof the property. We install smooth-bore, correctly sized and colour-coded ducts with long, sweeping bends so pulls are easy and cables aren’t damaged. Every duct is fitted with a nylon draw cord and labelled at both ends. Boxes and marker posts are placed where specified, and spare ducts can be added for future services while the trench is open.
We follow industry colours (e.g., blue water, yellow gas, black electric, green telecoms) and select diameters that suit the intended cables or pipes with space for pulling socks. Bends respect minimum radii and are formed with factory bends or wide arcs—never kinked. External boxes, chambers and coil pits are set level, with lids chosen for the surface load and finish.
Wall penetrations are sleeved, pitched to shed water, and sealed with appropriate gaskets or mastics to keep out damp and pests. Internally, grommets and plates make a tidy finish and maintain fire or air seals where required. We leave draw cords coiled neatly with enough tail for the next trade, labelled so there’s no guessing later.
Backfill protects services and restores the surface. We bed pipes/ducts in selected sand or fine aggregate, backfill in layers and compact progressively to avoid later sinking. Reinstatement matches what was there—block paving on sharp sand with original patterns relaid, tarmac in bound layers, or lawns re-soiled and re-turfed. Edges are cut clean, joints are tight and levels flush so the repair disappears into the existing.
A consistent sand bed cushions services and prevents point loading; above the duct we place marker tape or coloured tiles at the correct height to warn future diggers. In trafficked areas we add protective slabs where cover is reduced. We record what goes where so anyone returning to the site understands the build-up and can work safely.
Before closing up, we verify what we’ve installed. Ducts are proved with a mandrel and draw line; water ducts are pressure-tested if specified; any cable pulls are tested for continuity and insulation by the relevant trade. We photograph routes, depths and entries and collate notes into a simple handover pack so utility providers and inspectors have what they need.
Every duct gets a pull-through to confirm it’s clear, with draw cords left neatly coiled. We sketch as-builts showing routes, depths and key offsets from fixed features, and we add date-stamped photos of trench bottoms, duct colours and reinstatement. This record speeds up future connections and avoids exploratory digging later.
Send a plan or quick sketch showing meter locations and where services need to enter, plus a few photos. We’ll map routes, confirm depths and duct sizes, coordinate with your utilities and provide a clear, itemised quotation with programme and reinstatement details.
